The third hand: collaborative robots in the packaging industry

Cobots are not meant to replace humans, but instead are designed to help by making activities easier or faster. How are humans and cobots currently working together?

Collaborative robots, also known as cobots, are not currently used in the packaging industry for heavy activities, but they make the manual tasks done by human employees easier, and reduce the number of actions to be performed by hand. This has a positive impact on production efficiency and employee health, and is not intended in any way to take the place of the employees.

In the trend report from FachPack, automation specialist Jugard + Künstner and a research expert from FAPS, the Institute for Production Automation and Production Systems at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, provide some insights and perspectives about how far the collaboration between humans and robots can go.
